Misfit by Jon Skovron

Jael has always felt like a freak. She’s never kissed a boy, she never knew her mom, and her dad’s always been superstrict—but that’s probably because her mom was a demon, which makes Jael half demon and most definitely not a normal sophomore girl. On her sixteenth birthday, a mysterious present unlocks her family’s dangerous history and Jael’s untapped potential. What was merely an embarrassing secret before becomes a terrifying reality. Jael must learn to master her demon side in order to take on a vindictive Duke of Hell while also dealing with a twisted priest, best-friend drama, and a spacey blond skater boy who may have hidden depths.

I really enjoyed this book. It took a couple of chapters to fully get into it, but it was good. Don't let the idea of preaching religion get in your head, the world that is created for these characters is a good one. The idea of where the demons come from is well created. I love when books make me think and I like it when a book is original and does not make me think of other books and this book does a great job of that. I hope there will be another book!!!

At first this book was a little hard to get into. It was a little slow at first and I thought it would have a lot to do with religion, which a lot of it does. Religion does not bother me, as I have read both Chronicles of Narnia and the His Dark Materials Series. I can easily not judge books based on this, but I can see how others may get caught up in this.

I thought the book had a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the book after a while. My favorite part was where we would get to go back in time and see Paul and Astarte's story. I do think it was cool how he blended Astarte as all of those people she once was. The fact that demons may have once been gods or other beings was an interesting concept. I like the world that Skovron built in order to see his creation of his stories. I like that there are deomons out there that may not want to be seen as a bad creature/being.

I absolutely loved Dagon. I am hoping there will be another story and him being involved with it. I am hoping that Jael can bring him back to his former self and to see what all he has done to come to how he is now. He may be viewed as a week person in Hell, but I find him to be very strong and to have great character. He knows that he has made mistakes in the past, and it seems as if he has learned from them. You can see the love he had for his sister and for the love he has of Jael.

I would love to see more of her father fighting the demons with Jael. So hopefully Skovron will write more stories of this series because I would love to see what these other Dukes and demons have in store for Jael.
